Volunteers

CareFree Dental provides a unique opportunity to serve the tremendous need of underinsured residents of our community. As an all volunteer clinic with five well equipped and comfortable operatories, our goal is to secure two dentists and two hygienists every day to help meet the tremendous needs of our community. 

The need for volunteers is great. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, only 2.3 dentists in Lansing serve 41,893 needy individuals. This shortfall dramatically demonstrates Ingham County’s critical need for additional dentists to serve through the clinic to increase access to dental care for low-income individuals and families. This is where you can play a significant role.

We realize most of you are extremely busy with your own practices and you already provide some free dental care in your offices and thru the Donated Dental Services program. However, most in private practice do not realize the extent of the problem locally because those in need do not even try to go to a private practice, knowing that they cannot afford it.

How often must I volunteer?

Dentists can volunteer for any amount of time, such as ½ or one full day a year, once every six months, ½ or one day a month, two days a month, or any combination that fits your schedule. Volunteer dentists sometimes bring their own assistants and make the experience an “Office Volunteer Day.” We simply encourage you to try it once and then make a decision on your future commitment.

5 Reasons to Volunteer

1) Because the local need is so great – for both residents and the health care environment.

2) It is good for your soul.

3) People like to be associated with those who do good deeds…so it could be good for your own practice.

4) You can help us secure funding through a challenge grant from Dental Dental Plan of Michigan. We need to register 45 volunteer dentists by February 2008 to receive this grant.

5) You can refer patients in need who qualify to our clinic and be assured they will receive compassionate and high-quality dental care.

Volunteers Needed

• Practicing or Retired Dentists
• Dental Hygienists
• Dental Assistants

Clerical

• Assisting office staff
• Filing and organizing charts
• Enrollment of new patients
• Medical/dental records
