Who is Eligible

To be eligible, you must meet the following requirements:

Live in Ingham county or have a Lansing mailing address
No dental insurance
Income at or below 200% of federal poverty level or a valid Medicaid card
Individuals with a dental emergency who meet our eligibility requirements may register
Individuals referred by volunteer dentists’ offices
Patients of Care Free Medical that meet our requirements

Is the clinic accepting new patients?
Although we have a waiting list for routine care, anyone with a dental emergency can register and will be seen as promptly as possible. Current patients of CareFree Medical who meet our income requirements can be seen. Individuals referred by volunteer dentists can be seen. As we grow, we will be able to expand patient eligibility.

Are emergency appointments available every day?
In general, we try to see an emergency patient within 24 hours, however there may be times when we cannot. Our volunteer dentists simply may not be available at all times, or our clinic schedule may not allow us to accept additional appointments.

How much does it cost to be seen?
Patients are required to make a small co-payment, between $5 and $25 based on a sliding scale according to income. Patients must register in person and pay the co-pay before being given an appointment.

How is dental care provided?
Our volunteer dentists and hygienists will treat you with respect and compassion. All our volunteers want to be here to help the needy.

Extractions
Basic fillings
Education on preventative care
Simple root canals
Bite splints (some free or small lab fee)
Temporary partial dentures (patient must pay small lab fee)
Emergency care-severe pain, swelling, infection, etc. We will try to see these patient within 24 hours

Dentures
Bridges
Permanent Partial Dentures
Crowns
Braces
Molar Root Canals

Important Information

Bring proof of family income and residency to EACH appointment. Proof of income can include items such as a prior year tax return, last three pay stubs, unemployment statement or social security statement.
Patients need to arrive 15 minutes early to each appointment to complete necessary paperwork.
If a patient misses an appointment without canceling 24 hours in advance, he or she will forfeit the co-pay and will not be seen for one year.
University of Michigan dental students and local dental hygiene students may provide care under the supervision a local dentist.
Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at every appointment
